Découverte en 1950

Dear Club Space Rockers:

You may have heard the rumors
currently circulating and I am delighted to announce it is true: There
is a brand new American pallasite about to come to the collectors'
market!

A single
regmaglypted and fusion crusted individual of a little over 1.7 kg was
found in Texas, circa 1950. The finder sent the mass to Texas Tech and
the geology department there confirmed it as a pallasite. The stone
remained with the finder's family until they saw Meteorite Men, and decided to do something with it.

The entire mass was acquired by my good friend Ruben Garcia, and
myself. The classification work was done by Dr. Laurence Garvie of the
Center for Meteorite Studies at ASU, and Dr. John Wasson of the
Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at UCLA. Analysis
confirmed that not only it is an entirely new pallasite to science, but
that compositionally it is unique. With extremely high fayalite values
and a remarkable variation in crystal size and shape, the new pallasite
is one of a kind. The Nomenclature Committee approved it this past
Friday, and the name of the new American pallasite is Sterley.

We donated a significant type specimen to the Center for Meteorite
Studies at ASU, and the remainder was lab prepared to exacting standards
by one of the top professional prep artists in the world. I can tell
you that the results are amazing.

The Sterley pallasite will
be sold exclusively by Aerolite Meteorites, LLC, in partnership with Mr.
Meteorite (Ruben Garcia). Each specimen has been photographed and
cataloged and will be accompanied by the following exclusive
documentation:

- A full color printed catalog describing the
history of the Sterley pallasite, and including photographs of every
existing specimen, along with the chemical analyses as performed by Drs.
Wasson and Garvie, and other information.

- A custom 5 1/2 x 8 1/2-inch color certificate of authenticity, suitable for framing, signed by Ruben Garcia and myself.

- A printed color 5 x 7-inch photo of the main mass, prior to cutting.

- A color copy of the 1951 Texas Tech letter, confirming the find as a pallasite.

- A custom Aerolite Meteorites, LLC specimen identification card.

- In addition, the largest slice of Sterley will be accompanied by the original Texas Tech letter and envelope from 1951.

This is one of the most important American meteorite discoveries in
decades and supplies are extremely limited. Specimens will be offered
first to the Aerolite Meteorites and Meteorite Men Preferred Customer List. If you are not on that list, and would like to be, please sign up here. It is free, private, and confidential. We never sell, rent, or trade your email address to anyone:

http://www.aerolite.org/admin/mailinglist.htm

Once our customers have made their selections, the remaining material
(if any) will be offered here on Club Space Rock, and finally to the
other forum, if we get around to that.

We will be presenting excellent photos and other details, in short order, via the Aerolite mailing list. Ruben and I would like to thank Dr. Garvie, Dr. Wasson, and ASU for their exemplary work on this important new specimen.

Any questions, please let me know.

Regards to all,

Geoff
